What Citrix technologies are most important to your work?

We are a long time Citrix XenApp shop, and 80% of our apps are seamlessly delivered for use every day. In addition, our goal is to keep 100% of our apps available remotely or, in a disaster scenario, on any device, from anywhere, delivered exclusively through Citrix. We used XenApp 4.5 until the end of life and beyond. We migrated to XenApp 7.5 in July of 2014, and at that time, I took over as the lead Citrix Administrator. We are currently running XenApp 7.12 in a multi-site linked farm, with Citrix NetScalers load balancing Storefront 3.8.

What current tech trends are you most interested in?

I have interest in low cost, low maintenance, Plug-and-Play devices like the Raspberry Pi, or Thin Client technology. I’m currently looking at evaluating the use of XenDesktop with these devices to provide a simple to use, but excellent, user experience.

This will be your first year at Citrix Synergy. What are you most looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to hearing about the upcoming vison and direction of Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop. I also look forward to increasing my knowledge with hands-on labs and breakout sessions. In addition, how can I forget the networking opportunity with my peers and fellow CUGC members?

If you could invent any gadget, app or device, what would it be?

I would take the Citrix Mouse one step further and integrate a touchpad mouse with a Zagg Style keyboard for iPad. We have had much success with this little gadget.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with my wife Danielle, my two children, Timothy and Kimberly, and my two dogs, Sabre and Lola. Both our kids play travel ice hockey. We spend most of our time at the ice rinks, and weekends traveling to ice hockey games. My son is also an active Boy Scout in the same troop that I made my Eagle rank in, and where I am currently an Assistant Scoutmaster. My daughter also plays field hockey and became a very good goalie in her first year. I enjoy watching my kids play their sports and cheering them on!

What else would you like fellow CUGC members to know about you?

I am relatively new to the Citrix User Group Community and will be attending my first user group meeting–Washington DC Metro CUGC–on March 2nd. I look forward to meeting everyone and reading all your posts!
